If you haven’t seen the photos from Tartan Day 2016, you may not know what an awesome time THAT was. Columbia, SC continues to be the hot spot for festivals and music/cultural events in the Southeast US. One of Columbia’s own local bands is nearing that tipping point where a band springs from its humble roots into the stratosphere of stardom. That band is Syr, a Celtic Folk Rock band with melodic harmonies led by front man Kyle MacCallum and his sister Laurel, backed up instrumentally by Timothy Strevens, Emily Bracey, Jacob McCleery, and Kelly Huff.
The photos I captured are of their performance at Tartan Day, as well as the spontaneous jam session that occurred when they were invited to take the stage with nationally known Tuatha Dea.
I am so glad SYR is finally getting the recognition they deserve, they have been working hard for years. My daughter and I have been following them from the start, hardly ever missing a show. They are good group of people who we love very much.

SYR is REALLY amazing, Me and my ma ^ Pamela Dawkins really enjoy their music and how friendly they are. They have opened my eyes up to more of the Celtic history and making me want to go and get lessons to start playing a instrument and also sing. Kyle, Laurel, Jacob, Emily, Tim and Kelly are really amazing friends and I am so glad to have met them through their music and Tartan Day South. We love them. -Dawnleigh
